The coming week will bring a lot of heat, followed by thunderstorms, posing a potential storm risk. On Friday, however, the summery guest performance with temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius will end for the time being: a striking cold front will take over from the west, according to the forecast by Geosphere Austria on Sunday.
On Monday, there will still be passing clouds to the north and west, but sunshine will predominate before some spring clouds form somewhat over the mountains in the afternoon. Subsequently, thunderstorms or rain showers are expected, especially in the west and southwest. With light to moderately strong winds from the northeast to the south, temperatures will rise from seven to 17 degrees in the morning to 26 to 32 degrees in the afternoon.
On Tuesday, sunny spells will prevail until noon before some cumulus clouds will bring thunderstorms, especially in the mountains and the north. In some places, the thunderstorms can be intense. Winds from east to southwest will be light to moderate and lively to strong, near thunderstorms. Early temperatures will range between nine and 19 degrees, with highs between 28 and 33 degrees.
The beginning of summer on Wednesday will occur under a flat high-pressure influence in the eastern Alps with only weak pressure contrasts. In all layers, increasingly energetic air will reach Austria from the southwest. As a result, the risk of thunderstorms will increase during the night and continue during the day. In the meantime, the sun appears, only to bring energy for further thunderstorms. Especially in the afternoon, thunderstorms also have damage potential. Away from the thunderstorms, it will be lightly windy, and after 14 to 20 degrees at the beginning of the day, daytime highs of 27 to 33 degrees are expected.
With the approach of a disturbance zone, western Austria will increasingly enter a more robust southwesterly flow on Thursday. In Austria, the air will remain energetic and thus again prone to thunderstorms. Again and again, these also have thunderstorm potential. In between, it will be sunny. From the west, a brisk westerly wind will also arise outside the thunderstorms. After 16 to 21 degrees, temperatures will rise to 25 to 35 degrees.
A prominent cold front crossing Austria from the west will usher in the weekend on Friday. In the morning, the more extraordinary air masses will have already reached the western half; partly heavy rain with only subdued temperatures is expected. Especially in the south and east, more thunderstorms with high damage potential will flare up in the morning. The westerly wind will pick up, sometimes vehemently, with the passage of disturbances. Around noon up to 29 degrees Celsius are expected in the east; at the latest, temperatures will drop to around 20 degrees in the evening.
